Markel in Richmond, Va., promoted Mike Scyphers to chief information officer from technology lead for Markel Wholesale. Scyphers has been with the company since 2009. Brendan Falvey joined the company as director of the public entity product line for the firm’s west coast region. He previously worked for Munich Re.
Katherine J. Henry, an insurance and reinsurance attorney with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in Washington, D.C., won a 2013 International Law Office Client Choice award for client service.
Capitol Financial Solutions, led by CEO Robert Turner, received the Leading with Excellence, Growth award from the John Hancock Financial Network. Capitol Financial is based in North Carolina, with offices in Henrico, Va., and partners and affiliates in Richmond, Roanoke and Harrisonburg, Va.
Kevin Chidwick, CEO of Elephant Insurance in Henrico County, told a Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce gathering recently that the company has leased additional office space, and expects moderate growth this year. The company, a division of a U.K.-based insurer, offers auto insurance in Virginia, Maryland, Illinois and Texas, and employs 260 in the Richmond area.
